Happy Newe Year! Gong Xi Fa Chai! Happy Valentine's Day!

All of the above has come and gone, apologies for the long absence... but the good wishes remain... :-)

As usual, I have been super busy after a short spell of clearing leave and going on a holiday back in December... I didn't go anywhere on NY eve - good to escape the usual traffic for once. CNY - had a fab one this year compared to previous years as we had relatives and friends with us for a week for CNY. Usually we have a very quiet NY. Now February has officially come to an end and officially - back to the work grind now although stress has been always been an all time high since the year started. I wonder when my next holiday be. I still have to clear some leave so will be off here and there but let's see if I can go somewhere to escape it all ...

Anyway, it is late on a Sunday morning, got up halfway and couldn't sleep again so I thought of leaving a new entry for once... Better go back to sleep soon as I have to attend an event later at 11.30am....

Have a great weekend ahead and whatever of it remains....

Tragic landslides in Bkt Antarabangsa

What a tragic incident! Especially just days after the Highland Tower tragedy that happened 15 years ago right in front of my eyes.....

Yesterday morning, I & my family had calls & sms-es asking if we are doing ok with the recent landslides in Bukit Antarabangsa. As we live 2 estates down the road, we did not have any idea what happen until I ran a search on the Net. What I saw was scary and it certainly brought back memories of Highland Towers.

I hope that all victims are found .....

Nice weekend Strange weekend

Just as I was enjoying the nice weekend (after having cleared some work in the office on Saturday) and going to Body Vive at the gym after that... talk about a feel good feeling for being able to feel healthy and do my own thing for once... This morning, just before I went off for a Body Balance class, I read about an article about yoga being banned (as per earlier entry)....  It is rather shocking that the authorities have come to such a conclusion... So disappointed that the country may really back to stone age.....

Talking about Malaysia Muslim council under fire for banning yoga - Regional - MSN Malaysia News - News

One of Malaysia's highest Islamic bodies was under fire Sunday after its chairman said yoga was forbidden for Muslims because the practice would weaken religious faith.

Devotees of yoga and moderate Muslim groups criticised the ruling by Abdul Shukor Husin, chairman of the government-backed National Fatwa Council. Yoga is hugely popular in mostly-Muslim Malaysia.

"I don't think it had caused any Muslim to convert to Hinduism, neither has it weakened their faith," said Norhayati Kaprawi, an official with Sisters of Islam, a private group which champions the rights of Muslim women.

"It is just an exercise like tai chi, which has its roots in Buddism," she told the Sunday Star newspaper. She said her group's staff had been holding yoga classes for the past year and that they would continue.

Rulings by the Fatwa Council are not legally binding on the country's Muslims, and there are no laws to punish those who ignore Council decisions -- but it is an enormously influential body.

Abdul Shukor decreed that yoga was forbidden because it involves the recitation of mantras and that it encourages a union with God that is considered blasphemy in Islam.

"The practice will erode their faith in the religion," he said on Saturday. "It does not conform with Islam."

A veteran opposition lawmaker, Lim Kit Siang, said that the edict showed that Malaysia was heading towards a conservative type of Islam which could divide the multiracial country.

"It is sending a most unfortunate message that Malaysia, instead of moving towards a moderate and universal Islam, is moving towards an opposite direction which will create divisions," he told AFP.

Islam is the official religion of Malaysia, where more than 60 percent of the population of 27 million are Muslim Malays who practice a conservative brand of the faith.

About 25 percent of the population is ethnic Chinese and eight percent is ethnic Indian, most of whom are Hindus.

Yoga, an ancient Indian aid to meditation dating back thousands of years, is a popular stress-buster in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur.

Muslim yoga teacher Siti Suheila Merican said that while yoga practice should not involve worshipping, the physical movements were good for improving health.

"Worldwide it has been accepted as an excercise for health benefits," she was quoted as saying by the Star newspaper.

Long time!

It has been a really long time since I last blogged and I didn't really realised that.

A lot has happened over the past year with work, the Malaysian politics, Obama became the President of USA..... Too much to recap and recall... so I am going to take a fresh start by being spontaneous!

First of all, work has been crazy with a lot of stuff and projects going on - not to mention events, etc. Health wise, it has been so-so, earlier this year, I had a nasal infection which lasted over a month. I had been coughing a lot which has been the worst time of my life. I lost 2.5kg over this period though I can't say that this is a bad thing la, ha ha.

In March, I went up to Penang with Elaine and Amy for 3 days and I had a great time since I haven't travelled with friends in quite a while. Kristy & Gary came down to KL in July and Elaine and myself recipocated by taking them out for dinner in Mei Keng Fatt, Ulu Klang which was cool. Danny, Elaine's husband Danny joined so it was a great get together. Kristy may be heading down to KL for a few days on the week of following NY, hope that they can make it since my parents are going to be in the USA with Melissa and her parents for 2 weeks in December. I guess I will be home alone that time but I will be in Phuket for a few days over Xmas the week before.

Sigh, as I type this entry, I just realised that the year has been passing back so quickly that I can believe that it is going to be Xmas/NY soon.... Anyway, will try to blog more and update more...

Meeting Russell Lee

It has been an interesting weekend. I was supposed to meet up with Amy to visit Russell Lee's (of True Singapore Ghost Stories series) book signings which is held over the weekend. I was a bit disappointed in the beginning there were some things that came up. And as I had been keeping in touch with RL via e-mail after all these years, it would be nice to put a face to a name. Anyway, this evening, I had a bit of time on my hands and I made my way to MPH bookstores in Alpha Angle, Wangsa Maju. It has been a long time since I went to Alpha Angle and I actually missed a turning on the way there. The complex has so much more to offer now compared to say, the past 8-10 years. Anyway, I reached the place at about 5.15pm, walked around for a bit before heading to MPH to get the latest Book 17. I was actually 2nd in line for the autograph session and there was a young lady in front of me who was quite sweet.

RL sounded very happy to see me, chatted for a bit and took some photos (it is a common thing for his team to take photos). Anyway, I hope that he will e-mail me the photos though. So, it is a great end to a nice weekend... Now, to writing a thank you email to RL.....
